ICYMI: ASHFORD COMMITTED TO CUTTING WASTE THAT DOES NOT BENEFIT THE 2ND DISTRICT
OMAHA – During his campaign for Congress in 2014, Congressman Brad Ashford announced that he would fight against costly Congressional perks that do not benefit the 2nd District.
Staying true to that commitment, a recent report shows that Congressman Ashford has spent the least on mass mailings than members in any other competitive district. While spending the least on these promotional mass mailings, Congressman Ashford also refuses to use 2nd District tax dollars to fund first-class flights.
This comes on the heels of Ashford’s work with Republicans and Democrats to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment that would require Congress to work together with the president to pass a budget — something they have done in years. Ashford also supports the “No Budget, No Pay” Act to withhold Congressional paychecks if they are unable to pass a budget.
“Nebraskans know that if they do not do the job they were hired to, they would not continue to receive their paycheck,” said Ashford’s Campaign Manager, Sam Barrett. “Brad has taken his Nebraska values to Washington and is working to bring bipartisan fiscal responsibility to Congress.”
Ashford is a co-sponsor of legislation (HR 688) which reduces the salaries of members of Congress by 10 percent, and he donated 10 percent of his salary for the Nebraska 2nd District Congressional Scholarship.
